Protein-Style Cheeseburger

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound ground beed, shaped into 4 patties

  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese

  • 2 roma tomatoes

  • iceberg lettuce for the wrap

  • 2 tsp yellow mustard

  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tsp avocado oil

  • sea salt

for the spread

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 Tbsp sugar-free ketchup

  • 1 Tbsp pickle relish

  • 1/2 tsp white wine vinegar

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add avocado oil to heated pan and cook the sliced onions for 20-30 minutes, or until soft and caramelized.

  2. Season to taste with sea salt and set the onions aside.

  3. Preheat grill or grill pan over medium heat (until it reaches 350-400). Prepare your burger ingredients and mix together secret sauce.

  4. For the burgers, divide the mustard equally between the 4 patties, about 1/2 tsp mustard per patty and spread it in a thin layer over one side of the burgers. You want to grill with the mustard side down first.

  5. Grill the burgers 6-10 minutes per side depending on desired doneness, adding the cheese slices halfway through the cooking time when you flip the burgers.

  6. When the burgers are done to your liking serve them right away with all the toppings and secret sauce.
